Temperatures are rising, the delicate scent of cherry blossoms have come and gone, but fashion is everywhere you look in Tokyo. The home of one of the largest fashion shows in Asia, Tokyo Girls Collection, is enjoying all that the season has to offer by mixing their well know cutting edge playful style with western fashion designs, creating a unique and extremely colourful summer look.

The casual jackets and cropped trousers that were popular at fashion shows are now coming to the streets of Tokyo. With a touch of the good old Lolita and Gyaru Japanese anime style, Bubble and knife pleated skirts, hats and colourful funny stamps are in every corner of the high-tech metropolis. Which welcome the summer with a classic but ‘childish’ street style.

Peep toe wedge sandals are a must in every wardrobe, followed by the beloved 80s and vintage shops are booming with girls fighting over authentic 1980s acid wash clothing. From oversize shirts to miniskirts, light blue denim can be found everywhere on the high streets, paired with knee high socks, Boston bags and trench coats.

This season’s materials are a mix of denim, leather, silk, satin, sequin, nylon, gold spangles and plain cotton, with monochrome, white and caramel.

With hundreds of new styles being born and others dying out every day it’s hard to fully describe Japanese fashion. However, one thing is for sure, the more unique and colourful your outfit is the more trendy your Tokyo style will be.
