Fashion always has a way of surprising us. Sometimes it seems fashions and fads will come and go and nothing new comes around. However, for the past couple of seasons something new has started to emerge on the scene. A fabric, or material rather that you would probably never associate with fashion is rising within the seas of denim and leather and becoming the ‘it’ piece for Spring/Summer 2013. And this is the unconventional, perspex.

This trend follows the success of Christian Louboutin’s ‘Un Bout’, PVC, pointed stilettos worn by everyone from Rihanna to Emma Stone. Essentially they became a red carpet hit and were seen at most celebrity events throughout 2012. This spawned a high street version in Zara. Their sellout perspex court heels and nude strappy versions, which came out last summer, continue to be sold for extraordinary amounts on Ebay. Paving the way for this coming season taking the perspex trend from a micro trend to major one.

Many would view this as the most impractical of trends as parading around with your most precious items (iPhone, purse and keys) in a transparent perspex clutch might be the best advert for thieves. But we can’t forget fashion knows no bounds and that’s what makes it great. Besides it looks pretty good right?

Could this be the next big trend for spring? It could well be, as it is probably the most versatile piece to hit your wardrobe. It can go with anything whether you’re going for something edgy, elegant or effortless. What more could you want from a clutch bag or statement piece of jewellery?

The trend isn’t just for accessories though. At Burberry S/S 13, trenches incorporated the clear PVC trend onto shoulders for a touch of futurism. Whilst on other catwalks it was taken a step further with completely clear PVC bomber jackets. We can all pray for a good version to hit the high street.

Since the Spring/Summer 13 collections were showcased in September the High Street versions have started to filter down with some amazing pieces. Quick off the mark, NastyGal have a variety of products to fulfill your every Perspex and PVC dreams. Our favourite is the Eyecandy Tote, which is a clear plastic satchel bag. They are also selling some of the best in transparent heels. Several pairs can be found from wedges to brightly coloured to fade outs.

Topshop is another go to for clear heels. Try the glass Perspex heel courts, you can go for either a floral printed pair which would be perfect for weddings or formal occasions whilst the black would be the best all-rounder. For even more options look to Asos for nude and black styles too.
