Debarun Mukherjee and Vaishali Shadangule created colourful and elegant collections at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012.
The audience was clearly and rightfully impressed by Debarun Mukherjee’s universal collection on the runway at Lakmé Fashion Week this year.
This exciting show took place in Mumbai on Sunday, August 5 2012. His range is called “Omnipresent” and is serene yet beautiful. Debarun took the willing spectators on a weird yet wonderful journey. Setting the pace for his peaceful environment was dancer, Rinku Dutt. He also had the equally established singer Richa Sharma strutting down the catwalk showcasing his printed beauties. Debarun was certainly pulling out all the stops for this show.
He created depth to his pieces by having a constant presence of blue and adding beige and black to the base colour. He was inspired by the well-known isnik tiles of Turkey, which also have a base shade of blue. All his pieces were visually pleasing and had a mosaic feeling about them. Debarun used embellishments and a number of different fabrics to replica conflicting surface textures, just like the isnik tiles themselves.
The collection had a sense of richness about it with the use of silk and elegant and graceful saris. The ensembles consisted greatly of layering and pleating, which in turn created interest. The whole range was very fluid and each piece was complimentary of the next on the runway.
There were many eye-catching pieces that stood out from the collection. Debarun very cleverly took aspects of the tradition sari and introduced fresh and exciting details such as bell sleeves, extended collars and asymmetric tops.
Menswear was sleek and stylish and was also full of prints and interesting embroidery.
The closing was certainly not a disappointment and definitely lived up to the rest of the show. Just like the opening, the ending included a well-known face. Star of the hit Bollywood film, “Gangs of Wasseypur”, Richa Chadda appeared wearing a stunning asymmetric outfit complete with a black velvet waistcoat.
Vaishali Shadangule paid tribute to colour with her collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012.
Calling her collection “Reverb”, Vaishali Shadangule celebrated colour with her distinctive style. Using an assortment of her favourite fabrics, Shadangule started the show with organza and silk. She used an assortment of colours such as blues, reds, whites and rich golds which added a sense of fun and playfulness to the show. The designer added unique details such as embellishments and gold flowers, which beautifully glittered when the light caught them.
Shadangule used her strengths by creating inventive and asymmetric attire. She is very imaginative and certainly stuck to what she’s best at. The use of such sheer and delicate fabrics on the towering models created beautiful silhouettes. She continued the colourful array of clothing with techniques such as draping, layering and over-lapping which has been a very popular method throughout the whole fashion week.
The collection also consisted of striking combinations such as blouse and pant duo’s in matching materials which added a whole new dimension to the range. The saris felt a lot more like occasion/festive wear whereas the blouse and trouser grouping could easily be dressed down if needed.
The fabulous display of layers and contrasts completed the vibrant fashion statement from Vaishali Shadangule and left everybody astounded by her “Reverb” collection.
