This year is the comeback for the International Woolmark Prize Awards. Based on an initiative from the International Wool Secretariat, a design competition with highlights of the contents of merino wool showcased in the best and most innovative possible way, aiming to bring forward new emerging talents across the globe. With winners such as Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent, the International Woolmark Prize has been a successful competition among the next generation of design with focus on the merino wool credentials such as its quality as a natural fibre, reports the International Woolmark Prize also known as IWS. The International Woolmark Prize will be held in five regions; Australia, China, Europe, India and the USA; with the first section of the competition in the Europe region was held on the 12 of July.
The Antwerp-based designer Christian Wijnants was announced as the winner of the International Woolmark European Price, reports Vogue UK yesterday. Wijnants will now battle against the winners from the other regions in a final competition. The winner will be awarded 100 000 Australian dollars.
Within the European jury there was the famous faces such as Alexandra Shulman, Editor in Chief for Vogue UK, Tim Blanks, Editor at Large of style.com, Christiane Arp, Editor in Chief for Vogue Germany, Alber Elbaz, previous artistic director of Lanvin, Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared2 and the British designer, Giles Deacon.
